Myths & Facts About Studying Abroad

Myths & Facts About Studying AbroadWe have many questions about What, How, and when to study abroad and make assumptions about it as well. No one ever said that studying abroad will be easy, it’s just about challenging yourself with unfamiliar situations.

Studying in another country opens up new opportunities and gives us a different perspective on life. There have been many misconceptions about studying abroad which have discouraged students in the past, but we should always explore our options. It is about the experience we get by taking classes, making new friends, learning about new cultures visiting significant sites, learning new languages, and trying new cuisines.

So, let’s discuss here a few myths about studying abroad and facts related to them:

Myth – Studying abroad is expensive.

Fact: – This is the most common misconception about studying abroad. The total cost of studying abroad varies depending on the ranking of the institution, duration of the course, and other miscellaneous expenses which include the mode of transport to travel to the university [if the campus accommodation is not provided], the type of accommodation and food expense [if living on campus then].

As a result, universities provide scholarships to international students so that they can apply for admission without being burdened with the tuition fees expense. All this can be pre-planned by checking the university websites and attending virtual webinars organized by the universities for better understanding. There are a lot of scholarships, and fee waivers available depending on the students’ potential. Many take loans to study and treat them as an investment for the future.

Myth – Native language is mandatory.

Fact: – Language can never be a barrier to studying abroad but will always be an advantage to communicate with local people. Most of the universities in the world offer English-taught programs. They also provide us with language classes for which we can enroll and benefit.

Myth – Difficult to get a job.

Fact: – Obtaining a job is always challenging irrespective of the location and in the current scenario we need to evolve, as employers are keen on hiring people who adjust to new situations and excel. Also, there are many internship programs coming up for which you can enroll and get experience in the same or related field.

Universities also continue offering virtual internships this year, to allow students the flexibility of working with international companies with no travel risk and this also helps students to work in countries where getting a visa is difficult.

Utilizing your skills will not only help you gain experience but will also give you exposure and if you continue to work hard you will easily survive in this competitive world and earn a good deal on the investment made in studying abroad.

Myth – With Covid-19 going on, how will I be able to study abroad?

Fact: – COVID-19 has had a major impact on studying abroad, but with the recent developments there have been relaxations given of which few things are still mandatory like – Mask compulsory, Vaccination Certificate, Insurance policies, etc.

The list of myths and facts is never-ending, but it is always better to read and check the information available on the university websites. It is very important to know the facts, instead of believing the myth blindly and taking decisions with half knowledge.

Always learn to read and verify your sources for better decision-making.
