What is Bartending?
This is a very “in vogue” profession. With more and more pubs flourishing, more of cocktail parties happening and drinking not remaining such a taboo, bartending could be a good career choice. In this profession, you would be making the drinks, mixing drinks, setting up bar, know what service and glasses for which drink, know the various bar tools, know the temperature various drinks need to be served at, accompaniments with drinks, reading a label, opening of wine and champagne bottles, knowing champagne and champagne services, liqueurs and liqueur service, detailed cocktail formulations, garnishes and bitters, mock tails, punches and beer.
When Can I Enroll for Bartending Course?
One can enter this field both through hotel management institutes. For direct entry the vacancies are generally advertised in the newspapers and the minimum prescribed qualification is graduation with not less than 50 % marks. The hotels themselves train them for a period of 1-2 years. OR for those who have passed 10+2 can enter by getting admission in hotel management institutes and qualify their examinations. Some institutes offer Certificate course after class 10th too. The duration of the course ranges from 3-6 months and also 1-year.
How can I Become a Bartender?
Formal training in the field through workshops, few private courses and few university courses would give you the professional touch. Need to know the mixing of cocktails and liquors and their compositions. There are a number of workshops [a day program] for anyone interested in learning the skill. These workshops range from a few hours to a day or 3 days too.
